How many years back do I need to file?
The IRS generally expects the last six years of returns to consider you in compliance, though older years with an outstanding balance or a substitute return may need to be addressed too. We confirm the exact list from your transcripts.
I don't have my old W-2s or records.
That's normal. The IRS keeps wage and income transcripts for years, and we retrieve them with your authorization. For self-employment income, bank statements and reasonable reconstruction methods fill the gaps.
Will I get in trouble for filing late?
Failure-to-file and failure-to-pay penalties apply, but filing voluntarily puts you in a far better position than waiting for the IRS to act. Penalty relief is often available, and we request it wherever you qualify.
What if I'm owed a refund on an old year?
Refunds can only be claimed within three years of the original due date. Past that, the refund is forfeited — one more reason to file promptly on any year you may have overpaid.
Do I have to come to Spokane?
No. Engagements happen by phone and secure document upload, and we prepare returns for clients across Washington, Idaho, Oregon, and Montana.
